Overview

The 7 Days birding safari is an exciting adventure which takes you North Western Uganda. This birding safari leads you to Murchison Falls Conservation Area for bird watching, you will be looking out for all the species and some of the Guinea Congo biome endemic bird through the stunning lushes of savanna grasslands in Murchison Falls National Park, the Royal Mile, the Albertine Escarpment etc. Over 650 bird species are recorded to be existing in the conservation area classified in broader categories of Savannah Forest birds, water birds and Albertine endemic. The commonest of the large birds found in the plains include the marabou storks, ground horn bills, secretary birds, black-bellied bustards, etc.

Day 01 pickup from Entebbe Airport-Birding at Botanical Gardens

Approximately 38km to Kampala, about 1 hour journey depending on the traffic
A guide will pick up from Entebbe International Airport and transfer you to your respective hotel of stay in Entebbe or Kampala, early arrivals may be introduced to birding around Entebbe preferable in the Botanical Gardens which produces great results of birding with views of the Great Blue and Ross’s Turacos, Red Chested, Klaas’s and Diederik Cuckoo, Great Reed, Grey Capped, Sedge, Greater Swamp and Eurasian Reed Warblers, Fain Tailed Widow bird, Striped, Malachite, Giant, Woodland and Pygmy Kingfishers, Black Bishop, Grey Woodpecker, Olive bellied, Red chested, Superb, Green Throated and Collard Sunbirds, Orange, Yellow Backed, Golden Backed, Slender Billed and Black Headed Weavers, Lizard Buzzard, Grey Kestrels, Black Kite, Gaber Goshawk, African Paradise, Red Bellied Paradise, Ashy fly catchers, and many more. Day 02 transfer to Murchison falls -Bird enroute for the white-crested Turac

Approximately 305kms from Kampala, about 5 hours journey
You will have breakfast early in the morning at the hotel and embark on a journey to Murchison Falls National Park and have a birding enroute for the White-crested Turaco. You will then have a lunch break in Masindi then continue to the park and drive to the top of the Falls for Pel’s fishing Owl, Rock Pratincoles, Bat Hawk and a variety of Night Jars. Dinner and overnight stay at Paara Safari lodge luxury, Sambiya River lodge mid-range or Heritage safari lodge budget.

Day 03 Birding in Murchison falls -kaiyo Pabidi forest

Day 3 of the 7 days Birding safari will begin with waking up very early in the morning and have breakfast at the hotel. Your guide will be waiting to take you for another birding experience. Here the main focus will be the Puvel’s Illadopsis, Grey and Yellow Longball, other species which might be encountered in Kaniyo Pabidi forest might include, the Fire Crested Alethe, Narina Tragon, Dusky Longtailed Cuckoo, Xavier’s, Ictrine, Plain and Little Greenbul, Yellow Billed and Yellow Spotted Barbet, Green, Olive Bellied and Olive Sunbird, Crested Guinea Fowl, Speckled, Yellow Rumped and Yellow Throated Tinkerbird, Brown Eared and Yellow Crested Woodpecker plus other forest birds. Day 04 game drive Birding at nile delta

After early morning breakfast you will start with a game drive to the Delta area searching for Shoebill stork and other water birds. During this morning drive you should expect a count of some nocturnal species of birds mostly the Nightjars and Owls, at times cats are sighted enroute. Crossing for a game and birding drive on the northern sector of the park, does not only provide you a Birding experience but also spotting animals like Lions, Leopards, Giraffes, Oribis, Hartebeests, Elephants and cape Buffalo. The birds usually seen on this drive include the White Fronted Black Chat, African Quil Finch, Fawn Bat and Breasted Waxbill, Northern Carmine, Swallow Tailed and Red Throated Bee-Eater, Silver Bird, Stanley’s Bustard, Black Billed Barbet, Rufous Crowned and Abyssinian Roller, White Browed Sparrow Weaver, Speckle Fronted Sparrow Weaver, Rufous Sparrow, Vitelline Masked and Little Weaver.
You will then be transferred back to the hotel for lunch where you will proceed for a boat cruise in the afternoon along the Victoria Nile to the bottom of the Falls, an area which provides a variety of water birds, expect to spot schools of Hippos and crocodiles. Day 04 Birding -Boat ride to the Nile delta

On the fifth day of the safari, you will have breakfast at your lodge where you will proceed to go for a boat ride along the Nile delta. The cruise goes deeper into the Nile to discover amazing sceneries and wildlife. For birding, you will be very impressed with the variety of species to see especially when you reach the vast papyrus swamps. The birds here include rare shoebill, African fish eagles, kingfisher, grey heron, woodpecker, warblers, ducks, geese, woodpecker among others. Expect to see more crocodiles, hippos, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and the illusive shoebill stock. You will reach the point where the Nile deposits any wastes before proceeding to what is known as the Albert Nile. It is a stretch of water where Victoria Nile penetrates into Lake Albert. In this area you see different birds hiding in shrubs and vegetation. Day 06 transfer to Masindi -birding the escarpment -Budongo forest

On this day of the safari, you will embark on a journey to Masindi for birding at the escarpment in Budongo forest a habitant of 360 species in search for the Black Billed, Spot Flanked Barbet, Foxy Cisticola, Striped Kingfisher, Red-chested Cuckoo, Foxy Cisticola, Red-winged Grey Warbler, Black-headed Batis, Cliff Chat, Green-backed Eremomela, Yellow-bellied Hyliota, Green-headed Sunbird, Red-winged Pytilia and Chestnut-crowned Sparrow-Weaver. In addition, birding to the pond for the Shining Blue King fisher, Sabine’s and Cassin’s Spinetail will be rewarding.
Overnight at Kabalega resort hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 07 Transfer to Kampala Birding enroute

On this final day of the safari, you will wake up and have breakfast then embark on a journey back to Kampala. Expect to encounter a variety of grassland birds. You will reach Kampala in the late evening.
